BEECHWOOD EMILY’s last couple of performances at this track were encouraging and she’s probably the one to beat based on her latest runner-up effort. The handicapper has put her up 2Ib, but remains one to be positive about and she’s my first choice.
SPACE KID was impressive over course-and-distance back in November and followed up that success when second at Southwell nine days ago. He’s up in grade here but looks to have leading claims in this weak event.
Selections: BEECHWOOD EMILY, SPACE KID
BE MY BEAU looked promising when finishing midfield in a strong-event at Lingfield on debut and looks sure to build on that now eased in grade. He’s drawn nicely in stall 3 and should be able to get competitive with further improvement to come for new connections.
STANLEY BALDWIN improved on his tapeta debut last time and is seemingly getting closer to a first success. If ridden a little closer to the pace on this occasion, he should take all of the beating with plenty of experience in his inventory.
Andrew Balding’s MERCURIUS POWER shaped with plenty of promise when fourth over course-and-distance 11 days ago despite being awkwardly away from the gates. He’s likely to improve and remains dangerous to dismiss.
Selections: BE MY BEAU, STANLEY BALDWIN, MERCURIUS POWER
Charlie Appleby’s CASTLEBAR produced a career-best performance to win at Newcastle last time out and looks poised to follow-up here. He sets the standard in comparison to what the rest of this field have achieved and he should be more than able to defy a mark of 84 on handicap debut with Adam Kirby doing the steering.
18.00 – Bombardier ‘March To Your Own Drum’ Handicap – 1m
CAREY STREET is one of several with solid each-way claims having knocked on the food in four of his last five visits to this track. His handicap mark of 60 looks manageable, so he’s worth considering.
AL OZZDI is a course winner from a 1Ib higher mark and although he’s not won for quite a while, he shaped as if he’s on the way back to form when fourth here last time. He’s one to consider.
Selections: CAREY STREET, AL OZZDI
18.30 – Bombardier Selling Handicap – 7f
SWINGING EDDIE has a good chance of following up his C&D victory last week which was undoubtedly a career-best. Despite carrying a penalty on this occasion, he’s definitely one for the shortlist.
DREAMBOAT ANNIE has been below-par on her three previous visits to this track, but she’s more than capable of making her presence felt in this wide-open event and being only 2Ib higher than when last successful.
Selections: SWINGING EDDIE, DREAMBOAT ANNIE
19.00 – Bombardier British-Hopped Amber Beer Handicap – 7f
The consistent BEAUTY CHOICE has been in good form over this C&D of late and is difficult to ignore being only 2Ib higher than when a strong-finishing second here last time. On the form available, he’s the one to beat.
TINTORETTO will appreciate the ease in grade and looks an each-way player from a much reduced mark and Tom Marquand on board. Ideally, he’s back down to his last winning mark and should go close.
Selections: BEAUTY CHOICE, TINTORETTO
