With another Fight Island event in the books, we have a lot to talk about in the world of the UFC. We will get to the ramifications of the results from the weekend in a moment, but I think we need to start out by talking about a potential fight that we all want to see and which may yet happen. Those of you who follow the sport are probably well aware that the proposed fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson has now been booked and postponed five different times. It’s a bout that we all want, but it’s one that we are beginning to believe will never happen. The good news is that Dana White still sees it as a distinct possibility. Let’s get right into action so you can find out the latest rumors about this long waited bout and you can make your bets against their UFC odds when the time comes.

Any hope of this bout happening anytime soon appeared to die after Ferguson lost to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. Gaethje will now try to win the title against Khabib at UFC 254. In the meantime, the UFC is actively looking to get Ferguson another fight, which, if he wins, will put him in the crosshairs of the champ, should he defend his title against Gaethje. A lot has to happen for the stars to align, but Dana White has confirmed that a Nurmagomedov/Ferguson fight is still on the horizon.
One of the surprises of Fight Island 4 over the weekend was perhaps how good Holly Holm looked in her UD win over Irena Aldana in the headliner. You could argue that it was the best performance of her career, and while you would think that the victory would immediately have her in line to face Amanda Nunes, she may need to wait her turn. The reality is that Nunes already has another fight lined up, and since she holds the title in two weight classes, who knows what she might choose to do after that.
One way that the UFC might choose to go is to pit Holly Holm against Germaine De Randamie, who had a very impressive win over Julianna Pena on Saturday night. For her part, Holm appears to be totally chill and ready to take whatever comes her way. She is realistic about having to wait for Nunes to do whatever it is she wants to do before getting another shot, but that also means taking on another fight or two, which could have an impact on whether or not se gets a title shot in the future. It’s going to be interesting to see how all of that unfolds.
Let’s close out this week by taking a moment to talk about Bellator. John De Jesus opened up his Bellator account with a win over Vladyslav Parubchenko. No sooner had the decision been handed down when De Jesus called out Aaron Pico. While no contracts have officially been signed as of yet, word is that these two men will meet at Bellator 251 on November 12. We will keep an eye on this one to see if the deal does indeed get done.
