The Sycamore Stakes Preview and Free Betting Pick – Friday, October 16, 2020

The Grade III, $150,000 Sycamore Stakes will run as Race 8 on the Oct. 16 card at Keeneland.

The event for 3-year-olds and up will cover 1 1/2 miles on turf and include names like Aquaphobia and Postulation among the field of 10.

Here is a look at the top runners set for the Sycamore Stakes.

Aquaphobia, Postulation

One of the leading runners coming into the race is Paradise Farms Corp, David Staudacher, Hooties Racing, and Skychai Racing’s Aquaphobia. The 7-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway is trained by Michael Maker.

He has a career record of 9-6-7 from 37 starts and earnings of $707,361. In 2020, he has two wins, one second, and one third from seven outings.

Last time out, he took third in the Aug. 29 Sword Dancer Stakes (G1) at Saratoga. He also scored the July 18 United Nations Stakes (G1) at Monmouth Park, where he registered a 112 Speed Figure. His other victory was in the Feb. 17 Old Man Eloquent Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

Aquaphobia will break from post 6 under rider Florent Geroux.

Another top runner coming into the race is Runnymore Racing’s Postulation. The 8-year-old gelding from Harlan’s Holiday is trained by Michael Matz.

He is 6-7-4 from 31 career starts and has earnings of $614,911. In 2020, he has one second-place run from two outings.

That runner-up effort came in the TVG Elkhorn Stakes (G2) at Keeneland Feb. 12. His most-recent race was a fifth-place finish in the Sept. 12 Calumet Farm Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes (G3) at Kentucky Downs.

Postulation will break from post 1 under Julien Leparoux.

Ziyad

Another runner to pay attention to is Wertheimer and Frere’s Ziyad. The 5-year-old gelding from Rock of Gibraltar is trained by H. Graham Motion.

He is 6-6-5 from 22 career starts and has earnings of $554,592. His 2020 runs include one win and two thirds from five outings.

Last time out, he finished sixth in the Sept. 13 Qatar Prix Foy (G2) at Longchamp in Great Britain. His victory came in a March 3 allowance race at Chantilly, and his last North American start was a third-place run in the Oct. 12, 2019 Pattison Canadian International Stakes (G1) at Woodbine.

Ziyad will break from the outside post 10 under Manuel Franco.

The rest of the field (post, jockey) is set to include: Red Knight (post 2, J Graham), He’s No Lemon (post 3, R Bejarano), Split the Wickets (post 4, C J Hernandez), Big Agenda (post 5, T Gaffalione), North Dakota (post 7, C J Lanerie), Morning Stride (post 8, G Saez), and B J Hernandez, Jr.).
