The $200,000 Martha Washington Stakes will run as Race 5 on the Jan. 30 card at Oaklawn Park.
The event for 3-year-old fillies will cover one mile and include names like Coach, Joy’s Rocket, and Lady Lilly leading the small field of six.
Here is a look at the top runners set for the Martha Washington Stakes:
Betting Preview: Coach, Joy’s Rocket
The morning-line favorite coming in at 7/5 is Kueber Racing’s Coach. The 3-year-old filly from Commissioner is trained by Brad Cox.
She has a career record of 3-0-1 from four starts and earnings of $115,740.
She took third last time out in the Nov. 28 Golden Rod Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs, registering a 91 Speed Figure. She also scored the Oct. 25 Rags to Riches Overnight Stakes at the track, an allowance race on Sept. 15 at Indiana Grand, and an Aug. 10 maiden special weight race also at Indiana Grand
Coach will break from Post 3 under jockey Florent Geroux.
The second-choice coming in at 5/2 is Team Hanley and Parkland Thoroughbreds’ Joy’s Rocket. The 3-year-old filly from Anthony’s Cross is trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen.
She is 4-1-0 from six starts with earnings of $230,944.
Her most recent performance was a victory in the Dec. 19 Letellier Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds, which followed another win in the Nov. 6 Songbird Stakes at Keeneland. She also took fourth in the Oct. 10 Frizette Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park and second in the Aug. 19 Bolton Landing Stakes at Saratoga. Her two other career performances were victories in the Aug. 1 My Dear Stakes at Woodbine and a June 28 maiden special weight race at Churchill Downs.
Joy’s Rocket will break from Post 1 under jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr.
Betting Preview: Lady Lilly
Those two runners will be joined by Phoenix Thoroughbred III’s Lady Lilly, coming in at 9/2. The Nyquist filly is trained by Steve Asmussen as well.
She is 2-0-1 from four career starts with earnings of $114,200.
She is coming off a seventh-place run in the Golden Rod Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs, which followed an Oct. 2 allowance optional claiming race at Keeneland. She also took third in the Sept. 6 Spinaway Stakes (G1) and an Aug. 2 maiden special weight race at Saratoga.
Lady Lilly will break from Post 5 under rider David Cabrera.
The rest of the field (post, morning line) is set to include: Novel Squall (Post 2, 15/1); Will’s Secret (Post 4, 6/1); and Sylvia Q (Post 6, 5/1).

Joy’s Rocket stands a good chance against the favored Coach in the Martha Washington. The three-time stakes winner is four for six, and she is making her two-turn debut. Her 85 Speed Figure that she earned last time out is the best career number in the race. However, she will have to overcome the rail to take this one.
