The Demoiselle Stakes Preview and Free Betting Pick – Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020

The Grade II, $150,000 Demoiselle Stakes will run as Race 9 on the Dec. 5 card at Aqueduct Track.

The event for 2-year-old fillies will cover 1 1/8 miles and include names like Malathaat, Millefeuille, Malibu Curl, and Cafe Society among the field of eight.

Here is a look at the top runners set for the Demoiselle Stakes.

Betting Preview: Malathaat, Millefeuille

The morning-line favorite coming in at 4/5 is Shadwell Stable’s Malathaat. The Curlin filly is trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher.

She has a career record of 2-0-0 from two starts and earnings of $89,650.

Last time out, she scored the Nov. 6 Tempted Stakes at Aqueduct, registering a 91 Speed Figure. Before that, she also won an Oct. 9 maiden special weight race at Belmont Park.

Malathaat will break from Post 1 under jockey John Velazquez.

She will be up against the 7/2 Millefeuille, owned by Juddmonte Farm. She is another Curlin filly trained by a Hall of Famer in William Mott.

She is 1-1-0 from two career starts with earnings of $56,600.

Her most recent performance was an Oct. 23 maiden special weight victory at Belmont Park. She also finished second in a Sept. 26 maiden special weight race at the track.

Millefeuille will break from Post 3 under rider Joel Rosario.

Betting Preview: Malibu Curl, Cafe Society

Another runner to pay attention to is Woodslane Farm’s Malibu Curl, coming in with a morning line at 6/1. Yet another Curlin filly, she is trained by Thomas Albertrani.

She has a career record of 1-0-0 from two starts and earnings of $40,032.

The filly scored a Sept. 6 maiden special weight race last time out at Saratoga, which followed a disappointing sixth-place run in another back on Aug. 2 at the track.

Malibu Curl will break from Post 4 under rider Junior Alvarado.

The 6/1 Cafe Society will be in the field. The Empire Maker filly is trained by Claude McGaughey III and owned by Allen Stable.

She is 1-0-1 from two career starts with earnings of $56,000.

The filly took third in the Nov. 6 Tempted Stakes at Aqueduct last time out. Her debut was an Oct. 18 maiden special weight victory at Belmont Park.

Cafe Society is set to break from Post 6 under Jose Ortiz.

The rest of the field (post, jockey) is set to include:

  • Traffic Lane (Post 2, K. Carmouche)
  • Dollar Mountain (Post 5, 12/1)
  • Caramocha (Post 7, D. Davis)
  • Celestial Cheetah (Post 8, 30/1)

Free Betting Pick

The Demoiselle Stakes will see a pretty inexperienced field of 2-year-old fillies, with most having two career starts. This means that there is some room for surprises, as the full potential of these runners has yet to be demonstrated.

Because of this, the heavily favored Malathaat, coming in at 4/5, can be taken down. This would most likely happen with the 7/2 Millefeuille, who’s odds could offer a good payout depending on the wager. She is coming into the race off a strong win at Belmont, but the filly still needs to prove herself at Aqueduct.
