The $100,000 Claiming Crown Tiara Stakes Prep will run as Race 8 on the Sept. 16 card at Kentucky Downs. The winner of the race will receive an automatic berth into the Claiming Crown Championship at Gulfstream Park.

The event for 3-year-old and up fillies and mares will cover one mile and seventy yards on turf and include names like Aife and Sugar Fix among the field of 10.

Here is a look at the top runners set for the Claiming Crown Tiara Stakes Prep.

Aife, Sugar Fix

The morning-line favorite coming in at 5/2 is Ten Strike Racing and Todd Monken’s Aife. The 6-year-old mare from Paddy O’Prado is trained by Matt A. Shirer.

He has a career record of 7-7-6 from 27 starts with earnings of $263,131. In 2020, he has two wins and one third from five outings.

Last time out, he finished sixth in the Aug. 2 Kentucky Downs Preview Ladies Turf Stakes (Black Type) at Ellis Park. The runner’s victories came in a March 5 allowance optional claiming race at Fair Grounds and another on Jan. 25 at the track.

Aife will break from post 9 under jockey Shaun Bridgmohan.

The second choice coming in with a morning line at 7/2 is Mad Dog Racing Stable’s Sugar Fix. The 3-year-old daughter of Treasure Beach is trained by Saffie A. Joseph, Jr.

She is 6-3-0 from 13 career starts and has earnings of $114,868. In 2020, she has six wins and two runner-up finishes from 10 starts.

The filly’s most-recent performance was a fifth-place run in the Aug. 28 Lake George Stakes (G3) at Saratoga. Her victories included a July 30 claiming race at Saratoga, a June 24 allowance race at Delaware Park, and a May 27 allowance optional claiming race at Tampa Bay.
