The Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes Preview and Free Betting Pick – Friday, October 9, 2020

The Grade III, $150,000 Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes will run as Race 9 on the Oct. 9 card at Keeneland.

The event for 3-year-old and up fillies and mares will cover 5 1/2 furlongs on turf and include names like Got Stormy and Chalon among the field of 12.

Here is a look at some of the top runners set for the Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes.

Got Stormy, Chalon

One of the leading names among the field is Gary Barber’s Got Stormy. The 5-year-old mare from Get Stormy is trained by Mark E. Casse.

She has a career record of 9-5-3 from 24 starts and has earnings of $1,901,378. In 2020, she has one win and two seconds from six outings.

That one victory came last time out in the Sept. 12 Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint Stakes (G3) at Kentucky Downs, where she registered a 115 Speed Figure. Prior to that, she took second in the Aug. 22 Fourstardave Handicap (G1) at Saratoga and second in the March 7 Frank E. Kilroe Mile Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita.

Got Stormy will break from post 10 under jockey Tyler Gaffalione.

Another top runner coming into the race is Lael Stables’ Chalon. The 6-year-old mare from Dialed In is trained by Arnaud Delacour.

She is 9-8-1 from 22 career starts and has earnings of $991,895. In 2020, she has two wins and one second from four outings.

Her most-recent performance was a runner-up effort in the Sept. 5 Alma North Stakes (Black Type) at Laurel Park. Her victories include the Aug. 16 Incredible Revenge Stakes (Black Type) at Monmouth Park and the July 11 Dashing Beauty Stakes (Black Type) at Delaware Park.

Chalon will break from post 11 under Rafael Bajarano.


Another runner to look out for is Three Diamonds Farm’s Jakarta. The 5-year-old mare from Bustin Stones is trained by Michael Maker.

She has a career record of 7-3-1 from 15 starts and earnings of $179,170. Her 2020 runs include three wins and one second from six outings.

She won last time out in a Sept. 16 starter allowance race at Kentucky Downs. She also finished second in the Aug. 1 Caress Stakes at Saratoga and first in the May 16 Powder Break Stakes (Black Type) at Gulfstream Park.

Jakarta will break from post 5 under Javier Castellano.

The rest of the field (post, jockey) is set to include: Bohemian Bourbon (post 1, C J Lanerie), Into Mystic (post 2, J Talamo), Surrender Now (post 3, R Santana, Jr.), Tomlin (post 4, J Graham), Violent Times (post 6, B J Hernandez, Jr.), Winning Europe (post 7, J R Leparoux), Change of Control (post 8, C J Hernandez), Stillwater Cove (post 9, G Corrales) and Ambassador Luna (post 12, F Geroux).
