The Streetsboro Senior Center is ringing in the new year by hosting some activities in January.

Here is a list of the events planned for this month:

  • Massage program and demonstration on Friday, January 15 at 1:30 p.m.
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. program on Tuesday, January 19 at 12 p.m.
  • Bingo on Tuesday, January 19 at 1 p.m.
  • “Fun and games” on Tuesday, January 26 at 1 p.m.
  • Beginner line dance lessons every Thursday at 1 p.m.

The events are all free with the exception of the line dancing classes. The $3 fee can be paid by cash or check at the time of the class.

All seniors are welcome to attend events at the Streetsboro Senior Center, 9307 Route 43, activities coordinator Lynda Styles said. However, the number of participants must be limited for social distancing purposes. Numbers permitted at each event varies based on the activity. Events can typically accommodate between 10 and 18 people, she said.

For more information or to register for an event, please call the Streetsboro Senior Center at 330-626-2398. Anyone over 50-years-old is welcome to join in on the fun. However, reservations must be made. Participants will be required to wear face coverings and social distance.

“We are excited and optimistic about activities returning to the Senior Center,” Styles said. “Our plans for the coming year include variety of activities, social opportunities and educational presentations for those over 50.”

On Dec. 29, a few organizations worked together to spread some joy. Local seniors were welcomed to the Streetsboro Senior Center for a holiday drive through event. Its purpose, Styles said, was to celebrate the new year and provide a good meal.

Paula Baughman of Home Instead Senior Care provided a gift bag filled with activities and bottled water. Anisa Broska of The Gardens at Liberty Park donated delicious boxed lunches. Styles and Tressie Gardner, both Streetsboro Senior Center coordinators, made goodie bags full of items to help folks ring in 2021.

Parks and Recreation employees Rachel Miller, Sal Ruffo and Tyler Baughman also assisted with the drive thru.
