After 27 matches with a game in hand on league leaders Norwich City, Brentford sit in second place before their Reading vs Brentford match on Wednesday. They will try to move to first place against Reading, who is another side fighting for Premier League promotion. The Royals are six points back behind Brentford but are not a side to mess with. In fact, both of these squads have only lost one game apiece in their last six matches, both coming in the FA Cup.
While Brentford saw themselves out to Premier League title contenders, Leicester City, they bounced back by scoring 14 goals in just their last three matches. Their attack is spurred by Ivan Toney, who has mustered 22 goals already this campaign, along with 7 assists. The English forward is a special young player and should be a real treat in the Premier League if Brentford manages to keep his talents away from the big clubs. Overall, these two sides are within a hair’s length of each other, but it will take a lot for Reading to stop the Bees.

Brentford’s Attack is a Three-Headed Monster
Brentford’s attack is incredible, regardless of who they are playing. Their 4-3-3 formation allows them to counter and hammer down the wings with their trio of Sergi Canos, Bryan Mbeumo and obviously Toney. Those three players alone have been involved in 48 of Brentford’s goals this season, a remarkable feat. Behind them, Josh Dasilva is a class midfielder as well, just reiterating the fact that Brentford has talent all over the pitch.

If their recent form is not a tell-tale sign, this team just does not like losing games. Aside from losing to Leicester in the FA Cup and Tottenham in the League Cup, they have not lost a game since late October when they were stunned by Stoke City away from home. All in all, they have gone 20 games unbeaten in the EFL Championship, a mark that I do not think will be toppled on Wednesday.

Reading Still Need to Fight for Promotion
The saying is, a hungry dog runs faster. Reading will want to make sure they do everything they can to get the highest spot in the table before the promotional playoff. With that being said, they have been on a good spell of form as well, last losing to Luton Town in the FA Cup. Reading’s attack is not quite electric as Brentford’s but Lucas Joao’s 15 goals this season goes to show that this team puts the ball in the back of the net too.
“We remain disciplined towards what we control. We look to keep our minds on ourselves and our environment, wherever we can get better, look to upgrade our game. That’s the main focus.”
For Pauno, it’s all about bettering ourselves ahead of tomorrow’s meeting with Brentford! ?

Sadly, history is not on the side of the Royals. In the last three years, Reading have only won this head-to-head matchup once. The last two matches ended 3-1 and 3-0 in favor of the Bees, which might make them doubt their chances on Wednesday. Additionally, these two sides have hit the ‘Over’ on 2.5 total goals four out of the last five times they have played. Reading has also hit the same ‘Over’ in four out of their last five, which makes you wonder if this could be a goal-fest?
Reading vs Brentford Best Bet
Overall, the best bet for this match is the Brentford moneyline at +102. Going after the total goal mark makes sense, but scoring can be so volatile in the Championship. This Brentford team has been pouring in goals lately, but that is bound to dry up a little bit at some point.
Nonetheless, this Brentford team is almost too good to bet against with an offense that could probably produce in the Premier League. Their record against Reading as of late is the final straw that really makes this bet seem likely. Finally, with great odds, it is hard to pass up Brentford winning outright.
My Pick: Brentford moneyline (+102)
