Despite an up-and-down season, the Seattle Seahawks can win their first division title since 2016 by defeating the Los Angeles Rams Sunday (4:25 pm, ET).
The Seahawks are favored by 1 point at home. The Rams defeated the Seahawks 23-16 on November 15, but that was a lifetime ago in football terms. Since then, the Seahawks offense has re-established their running game and Seattle’s defense has grown stronger each week.
The Rams, meanwhile, are coming off their worst performance of the season in a loss to the previously winless New York Jets.
The line has moved closer during the week. This feels like a toss-up game.

Seahawks Now Running With Authority
When the Rams defeated the Seahawks 23-16 on Nov. 15, Alex Collins and DeeJay Dallas were Seattle’s primary running backs. The Seahawks were overrun by injuries that week.
Today, Chris Carson, Carlos Hyde and Rashaad Penny are all healthy. All three are dangerous and dynamic. Last week, the Seahawks rushed for 181 yards in a 20-15 win against Washington. As a group, the Seahawks averaged seven yards per carry. The previous week, the Jets’ ground attack generated 174 yards against the Jets.
The Seahawks really got a 3headed monster at RB with Carson, Hyde, and Penny

Hyde uncorked a 50-yard touchdown romp against Washington. Carson boasts 568 yards and a five-yards-per-carry average. Penny seems primed for a quality game. The Seahawks have produced three of their top four rushing performances in the past five weeks. The improvement of the Seahawks’ rushing attack has meant defenses can’t throw everything at Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. He hasn’t been sacked in the past two weeks.
In theory, Seattle’s strong ground game will set up its passing attack in the playoffs.
Rams Boast Good History vs Seahawks
The Rams have won five of their last six games against the Seahawks and averaged 31.8 points per game in those victories. Los Angeles has piled 450 or more yards in four of those games.
Seattle receiver DK Metcalf is on a pace to have the best receiving season in Seattle history. But he only had two catches for 28 yards when covered by Jalen Ramsey in the Rams’ Week 10 triumph.
If the Rams can control Seahawks’ running game, they can concentrate again on Metcalf and Wilson. The Rams rank No. 2 against the run this season, giving up 94.1 yards per game.

Seattle Has Injury Concerns
The Seahawks announced this week that cornerback Quinton Dunbar will have season-ending knee surgery. Guard Mike Iupati (neck injury) is doubtful. Plus, the Seahawks moved guard Phil Hynes to Injured Reserve, which leaves Seattle thin in offensive line depth.
The Rams announced that rookie running back Cam Akers (ankle) is out. He has rushed for 524 yards this season. But OL Rob Havenstein (shoulder) will play. Linebacker Terrell Lewis (knee) is also being activated.
Way back in time the Rams managed to win a game against the Seahawks with Cam Akers looking pedestrian. Some unknown QB moved the ball pretty well though. pic.twitter.com/qhV5PZQPlW

Wise to Back Wilson in Tight Games
The odds aren’t enticing for either team. But the bottom line: the Seahawks are playing a more balanced game than they were mid-season. They are not playing the same game they were when they previously lost to the Rams this season. The Seahawks are healthier than they were on November 15.
In an important game, it seems wise to believe in Wilson
