The Philadelphia Eagles finished their 2020 season with a disappointing 4-11-1 record.
Before it started, here were the Eagles’ odds at PA online sportsbooks:
- Super Bowl: +1900
- NFC Championship: +1000
- NFC East: +130
The Eagles’ injury riddled 2020 campaign was highlighted by the regression of their $128 million franchise quarterback and ended in a fitting, controversial fashion.
Before their Week 17 game against Washington, a report from Adam Schefter stated that Carson Wentz would seek a trade in the offseason and that his relationship with head coach Doug Pederson was “fractured beyond repair.”
Pederson favorite to be Jets next head coach
Doug Pederson was installed as the favorite (+300) to be named the New York Jets next head coach at FanDuel online sportsbook. “The New York Jets next head coach” betting market is available in New Jersey, not in PA. Pennsylvania does not permit betting on markets such as “next head coach” or a free agent’s next team. The Jets finished 2-14 and fired head coach Adam Gase after two years which he posted a record of 9-23.
Odds at FanDuel as of Jan 11 for New York Jets next head coach:
- Doug Pederson:+300
- Brian Daboll:+600
- Brandon Staley:+650
- Eric Bieniemy:+650

Eagles fire Doug Pederson
The Philadelphia Eagles’ first and only head coach to win a Super Bowl has been fired. After multiple meetings with owner Jeffrey Lurie, ESPN reported that the Eagles owner was “unconvinced that Doug Pederson had a sound vision for how to address the myriad issues facing the team.”
Per source, Doug Pederson is out in Philadelphia.

The Eagles finished in last place in a historically bad NFC East. Their offense ranked 26th in scoring (20.9 PPG) and 28th in passing yards (207.9). Despite playing in 12 games, Wentz tied for the league lead in interceptions (15).
Pederson was hired in 2016 to replace Chip Kelly. In 2017, the Eagles upset the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII. In five seasons at the helm, Pederson was 42-37-1, with two division titles and three postseason appearances. Since their only Super Bowl victory in 2017, the Eagles are 22-25-1.
The Super Bowl honeymoon seems like it ended before Pederson was officially ousted.
Jeff McLane at the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the problems started last offseason.
Again, I refer to this story I wrote in Sept., which the #Eagles had tried to downplay. The signs had been there for months, that if the season went south, Doug Pederson would take the fall:https://t.co/9FbNbgTXHU https://t.co/PT9MAyradP

Eagles end season with loss to Washington
By kickoff on Sunday night, Wentz was inactive and the New York Giants needed an Eagles win to clinch a playoff birth. Tweets from the Giants cheering for the Eagles flooded social media but it soon turned bitter when Hurts was benched for Nate Sudfeld. With the loss, the Eagles will have the sixth pick in the draft; a win would have moved them to the nine.
Did the Eagles cover against Washington? It depends what number you got since the Eagles opened as one-point underdogs. But with many starters ruled out, the line took a big swing moving Washington to 5.5 or 6-point favorites.
Philadelphia Eagles 2020 betting stats
The Philadelphia Eagles were bad for backers, too.
They finished 6-10 ATS. Only the Dallas Cowboys (5-11) were worse. Four other teams were 6-10 ATS.
The Eagles’ O/U record was 7-9.
Eagles fall short of expectations
Before the season started, Pennsylvania sportsbooks pegged the Eagles with the seventh-best odds to win Super Bowl LV. The over/under win total for the Birds was 9.5.
The Eagles finished 4-11-1, their worst record since 2012. They failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
