The schools split last year, each winning at home. The one in Boulder finished 74-65 in favor of the Buffs. Colorado guard McKinley Wright, who is still with the team, scored 11 of his 21 points in the final five minutes. Tyler Bey added 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Buffaloes improved to 9-0 all-time against the Ducks in Boulder. The Ducks were just 3-for-18 from deep. “One of the best home courts. It’s a tough place to play.,” Oregon coach Dana Altman said.

The Ducks (8-1) lost their first game of the season to Missouri and haven’t lost since. They are off a 73-56 home win over Stanford on Saturday. Stanford took a 46-45 lead on a basket by Bryce Wills with 9:45 to play before Eugene Omoruyi and Aaron Estrada hit consecutive 3-pointers for the Ducks. Amauri Hardy added a 3 for Oregon, and Omoruyi made one of his own to put the Ducks ahead 57-51 with 6:21 left. Chris Duarte later scored five straight points to give Oregon a 62-53 lead with 4:26 to go. That was that.

LJ Figueroa finished with 13 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. It was his second double-double of the season and the 10th of his career. Omoruyi had 15 points and a season-high five assists. He has scored in double figures in all nine games this season.

Eric Williams Jr., who had 12 points and six rebounds, is one of just 11 players nationally and is the only player in the Pac-12 with eight or more games scoring at least 11 points with six rebounds this season.

Oregon’s 28 straight home wins are the second-most in school history and tied for the second-longest active streak in the NCAA. Oregon coach Dana Altman tied former Cal and Stanford coach Mike Montgomery for 23rd on the NCAA career Division I wins list with 677. Saturday also marked Altman’s 800th career win at all levels, including 123 victories in the junior college ranks.

On Monday, Duarte was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the third time in his career. The senior averaged 21.0 points per game on 50 percent shooting (15-of-30), including 47 percent from three-point range (9-of-19) in the Ducks’ weekend sweep of California and Stanford. He also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. The three POTW awards trail only Dillon Brooks and Blair Rasmussen (four each) for the most in Oregon program history.

As a team, Oregon is second in the conference in field goal percentage (47.4), third in 3-point field goal percentage defense (29.2) and second in rebound margin (plus-7.4 per game).

The Buffs (7-3) lost 65-62 at UCLA on Saturday. The Bruins never led by more than seven in the second half. McKinley Wright IV’s 3-point play tied the game for the last time at 54-all. All of the Bruins’ crucial baskets over the final 10 minutes were scored in the paint, where they owned a 38-28 edge.

McKinley Wright IV and Maddox Daniels led Colorado with 12 points apiece while Jeriah Horne and Eli Parquet each added 10 for the Buffs. CU shot just 11-for-27 in the second half, including 3-for-13 from 3-point range.

The Buffs played their second straight game without 7-foot center Dallas Walton, out with an injury. Their problems in the post were compounded in the second half when big man Evan Battey was whistled for three quick fouls, limiting him to just 11 minutes on the floor after intermission.

Colorado, the nation’s top free throw shooting team, was under 80 percent for just the second time in 10 games. The Buffaloes made 10 of 13 (.769) lowering their season percentage to 85.0 percent. Colorado’s 10 free throws made tied a season low (at Tennessee) and the 13 attempts was one off the season low (12 at Tennessee).

UC was outrebounded for the third time in four games, falling to 1-2 in those contests. The Buffaloes lost for the first time in eight games this season when winning the turnover battle. UCLA had 14 turnovers while CU had 13.

One of the statistical oddities created by the coronavirus pandemic season is this: after 10 games, the Buffaloes have played as many games in Kansas State’s Bramlage Coliseum (two) as they have at the CU Events Center. The Buffs have indeed been very good on their home floor under Tad Boyle. Now in his 11th year in Boulder, Boyle has a sparkling 143-27 record at the Events Center.
