The Rangers will host the cross town rivals, the New York Islanders, at Madison Square Garden. This Eastern division match up is set to have puck drop at 7:00 p.m. eastern.
Not only is this one of the best rivalries in all of hockey, both teams seem to be playing their best all season. Both teams are coming off of a win against a team in the top three of the East.
New York Islanders Betting Preview: Keep playing scrappy close hockey.
Not only are the Islanders coming off of a big win, their last few games have been pretty tight hockey games as well. Prior to the win against the Penguins, the Islanders took the Flyers to back to back overtime hockey games.
The Islanders have had two guys be offensive standouts in Mathew Barzal and Jordan Eberle. Barzal is leading the team in points with 11, four goals and seven assists. Eberle is leading the team in goals with five to start the year.
The Islanders are only giving up 2.7 goals per game. Semyon Varlamov, goalie for the Islanders, has been very good so far. With a record of 4-2-1 he is only giving up 2.14 goals a game. New York could use a little help from their back up goaltender, Ilya Sorokin, who is 0-2-1.
New York Rangers Betting Preview: Trying to stay in the win column.
The Rangers come into this game having won back to back games for the first time this season. They have also been able to acquire at least one point in each of their last four games.
The Rangers have one of the most skilled hockey players in the league in Artemi Panarin. Through 10 games, Panarin has almost double the amount of points of anyone else on the roster with 15. Panarin has scored five goals and assisted on ten others.
So far this season, the Rangers have used the two goalie system, giving both Igor Shesterkin and Alexander Georgiev multiple starts. Shesterkin has been the better of the two with a record of 3-2 and only giving up 2.3 goals per game. Georgiev is 1-2-1 giving up 3.2 goals per game.
Islanders vs. Rangers Betting Odds & Lines:
BetOnline has the Rangers at -110 for this game, with a total of 5.5.
The Islanders are 6-4 against the spread this season, but just 1-4-2 on the road.
The Rangers are 8-2 against the spread and 3-2-1 at the Garden so far.
When you break down the statistics of both teams, they are almost a mirror image of each other. They have the same amount of points, are averaging around the same amount of goals, and giving up the same amount. Both teams are about league average on both the power play and the penalty kill.
Each team has one goalie who has been their standout. If it is a Varlamov vs. Shesterkin match up, this will be a very low scoring game.
