NHL Betting Preview: Detroit Red Wings vs. Florida Panthers – Friday, Feb. 19, 2021

The Florida Panthers will head to Detroit to take on the Red Wings in a Central Division matchup. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm eastern from Little Caesars’ Arena.

The Florida Panthers come into this game as the number one seed in the Central Division. They have won four of their last five and are looking to make quick work of the Red Wings, who are in the last place in the division.

Florida Panthers Betting Preview: Can the Panthers keep this pace.

The Florida Panthers have been a hockey team in the NHL for 26 years. They have only made the playoffs on five separate occasions. The last time they won a playoff series was in 1996. The start they are having now has to have their management hopeful that this is the year they break the playoff curse.

The Panthers are a top ten team in the NHL in goals scored per game at 3.3. A lot of the offensive success stems from Jonathan Huberdeau. Through fourteen games played, Huberdeau has accumulated twenty points on seven goals and thirteen assists. Carter Verhaeghe has also been a contributor to their goal scoring adding seven goals to the team’s total as well.

The Panthers have adapted this season to the two goalie method, with both Sergei Bobrovsky and Chris Driedger getting seven starts. Bobrovsky has a record of 5-1-1 and is giving up 3.3 goals per game. Driedger has a record of 5-1-0-1 and is giving up 2.39 goals per game. Having both goalies playing well has to be a boost to the locker room confidence.

Detroit Red Wings Betting Preview: Have to keep battling.

The Red Wings come into this game having lost their last two and four of their last five. Consistency has been a major issue for Detroit, in fact, they have not won back to back games all season.

One of the only positives for Detroit has been the play of Anthony Mantha. In seventeen games Mantha has scored five goals and assisted on four others giving him a total of nine points to lead the Red Wings. Detroit’s offense is going to hurt for a while until they can get Tyler Bertuzzi back on the ice, who suffered an upper body injury that is going to keep him on the injured list for the time being.

Goaltending for the Red Wings has been lackluster at best. Their main starting goaltender, Thomas Greiss, has been struggling to start the season. In twelve starts, Greiss has a record of 1-9-3. If the Red Wings are going to be able to try to climb the divisional standings, they are going to need Greiss to find a way to win.

BetOnline has the Panthers a 1.5 goal favorite and the over/under set at 5.5 goals.

Free Pick

The Panthers are 10-2-1-1 overall but are only 6-8 against the spread. They have hit the over eight times.

Detroit comes in at a rough 4-11-3 overall but has found success against the spread with a record of 11-7. They have only hit the over five times.

Not only is Florida a better team but they have also only lost one game on the road, and that game came down to a shootout. The Red Wings just do not have the firepower with Bertuzzi to match all of the weapons Florida has on their roster.
