NFL Thanksgiving Postponement Display Massive Changing Odds

  • Deshaun Watson is favored to throw the most passing yards on Thanksgiving with even odds.
  • Terry McLaurin stayed as the favorite to lead the day in receiving yards from +350 to +300.

DETROIT – Thanksgiving is not just a time for people to spend with their families, but also a time for one of the bigger sports betting days of the year thanks to Thanksgiving NFL action.

There are two games taking place during Thanksgiving football this year kicking off at 12:30 p.m. EST with the Houston Texans taking on the Detroit Lions and the Washington Football Team going up against the Dallas Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. EST.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were set to host the Baltimore Ravens at 8:20 p.m. EST but the NFL was forced to postpone their game due to the increased cases of COVID-19 circulating the Ravens’ administration and player list.

With this, many legal sports betting sites had to adjust their Thanksgiving prop bets, showing exactly how much odds can move when the situations change.

Total Points Scored On Thanksgiving Day

  • Over 142.5 -120
  • Under 142.5 -120

Updated Total Points Scored On Thanksgiving Day

  • Over 98.5 -120
  • Under 98.5 -120

The total here was set high considering that there was tons of offensive star power taking the field on Thanksgiving. However, one thing to keep in mind when looking to bet on the total here is that the Over has not hit in the last five years dating back to 2015. The closest it has gotten was in 2018 where the total points scored was 141.

With only two games being played, the over-under adjusted down to 98.5 – meaning all four teams need to average just under 25 points.

Most Passing Yards On Thanksgiving

  • Deshaun Watson (HOU) +205
  • Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) +333
  • Matthew Stafford (DET) +350
  • Alex Smith (WAS) +400
  • Andy Dalton (DAL) +650
  • Lamar Jackson (BAL) +1000

Updated Most Passing Yards On Thanksgiving

  • Deshaun Watson (HOU) EVEN
  • Matthew Stafford (DET) +300
  • Alex Smith (WAS) +300
  • Andy Dalton (DAL) +400

Reducing the list from six to four, the passing yard’s total on Thanksgiving saw a major shift in support of the Houston Texans’ quarterback. Moving from +205 to EVEN after the BAL-PIT game was pulled, every other quarterback also saw their odds shorten, though Alex Smith is still a longshot.

When looking at these quarterbacks, one thing to keep in mind is the receiving groups that each QB has.

DeShaun Watson specifically has been able to connect with most of his receivers this season and is also coming off of a 344 yard game in Week 11 which could be why he is favored.

As for Matthew Stafford, he will not have a full receiving group being that his WR1, Kenny Golladay, is trending down from playing.

Also in the past five years, Stafford has only led all quarterbacks in yards on Thanksgiving once.

Most Receiving Yards On Thanksgiving

  • Terry McLaurin (WAS) +350
  • Will Fuller V (HOU) +500
  • Brandin Cooks (HOU) +550
  • Diontae Johnson (PIT) +600
  • Kenny Golladay (DET) +650
  • Amari Cooper (DAL) +650
  • Chase Claypool (PIT) +1200
  • CeeDee Lamb (DAL) +1200
  • Marvin Jones (DET) +1500
  • JuJu Smith-Schuster (PIT) +1200
  • Mark Andrews (BAL) +1800
  • Michael Gallup (DAL) +2500
  • Marquise Brown (BAL) +2500
  • Logan Thomas (WAS) +3000

Updated Most Receiving Yards On Thanksgiving

  • Terry McLaurin (WSH) +300
  • Will Fuller (HOU) +350
  • Brandin Cooks (HOU) +400
  • Amari Cooper (DAL) +450
  • CeeDee Lamb (DAL) +500
  • Marvin Jones (DET) +650
  • Michael Gallup (DAL) +1800
  • Logan Thomas (WSH) +2000
  • T.J. Hockenson (DET) +2200
  • J.D. McKissic (WSH) +2500
  • Dalton Schultz (DAL) +3000
  • Jordan Akins (HOU) +3000

In this major list of skill players, not much was changed overall. The NFL longshots may have gotten a little shorter, but still sit above +650 (and even above +1500). Still, the top of the list took the focus with five of the top six receivers keeping their favored status.

Fourth in the league in receiving yards with 871 yards, there is no doubt as to why Terry McLaurin is favored to lead all receivers in yards.

Other notable players to consider are Will Fuller and Amari Cooper, as they both are the top receiving options on their teams.

A longshot option to look at here is Marvin Jones Jr. as he will serve as the WR1 for the Lions if Golladay does not suit up. Also, he thrives on Thanksgiving dating back to his 2017 outing where he went for 107 yards.

Most Rushing Yards On Thanksgiving

  • Ezekiel Elliott (DAL) +125
  • Gus Edwards (BAL) +350
  • James Conner (PIT) +425
  • Lamar Jackson (BAL) +550
  • Antonio Gibson (WAS) +700
  • Duke Johnson Jr. (HOU) +900
  • Deshaun Watson (HOU) +1500

Updated Most Rushing Yards On Thanksgiving

  • Ezekiel Elliott (DAL) EVEN
  • Antonio Gibson (WSH) +250
  • D’Andre Swift (DET) +500
  • Duke Johnson (HOU) +850
  • Deshaun Watson (HOU) +1500

Three of the top four athletes were removed from the list, showing just how much of a favorite Ezekiel Elliott is. He is clearly one of the top five premier running backs in the league; however, he has had a rough stretch of games leading into Thanksgiving which could put a damper on his chances.

Instead, one longshot option to consider is Duke Johnson Jr. who is serving as the Texans RB1 with David Johnson on IR.

He faces the Lions defense that is ranked last against opposing running backs.

As the old odds were pulled and players were refunded, nobody was able to lock in odds that supported a better payout. However, by reducing the number of players in each category, NFL bettors are given a better chance to win Thanksgiving football props when betting on the NFL Thursday.
