NFL Betting Preview: Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions – Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020

In what is a matchup filled with history, the Detroit Lions will take on the Green Bay Packers. In the last meeting between these two teams on December 29, Detroit lost to Green Bay by a 23-20 margin. Green Bay leads the all-time series between these two teams, 102-72.

Packers outlast Vikings in wild opener

In what was an offensive shootout, the Packers outlasted the Vikings in the opening week by a 43-34 margin. Aaron Rodgers had a great game in this one, going 32-of-44 on the day, and throwing for 364 yards and four touchdowns. Aaron Jones paced the ground game for Green Bay, rushing the ball 16 times for 66 yards and a touchdown.

The player who undoubtedly made the biggest impact for Green Bay was wide receiver Davante Adams. He caught 14 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. He showed that he was one of the best receivers in football. To his credit, Marquez Valdes-Scantling also had a big day, catching four passes for 96 yards and a touchdown.

Lions can’t roar to victory against Bears

In the meantime, the Detroit Lions almost upset the Chicago Bears. Matthew Stafford through for 297 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, but it was not enough to secure a victory. In his first game as a member of the Detroit Lions, Adrian Peterson carried the ball 14 times for 93 yards, averaging 6.6 yards per carry.

The Detroit Lions were able to establish a double-threat in the passing game. Danny Amendola caught five passes for 81 yards, while tight end TJ Hockenson caught five passes for 56 yards and a touchdown. Even still, it was not enough for Detroit to push past the Bears.

Free betting pick

I would feel comfortable betting the Green Bay Packers in this one. Anytime Aaron Rodgers is in a game, you can’t count him out. With the hard running of Aaron Jones and the receiving talents of Davante Adams, the Packers have a ton of weapons choose from.

Detroit is going to have to rely on the passing game if they want to be successful. They can certainly score points and put points on the board. However, whether or not they will be able to sustain it is another story. The Lions did put together a solid game last week, but it is going to be difficult for them to consistently sustain that production over the course of multiple games.
