The Florida Gators (2-0, 1-0 road) travel to College Station to take on the Texas A&M Aggies 1-1, 1-0 home) in a monster SEC matchup. This will be only the third meeting between the two schools since Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2012, with both teams sporting a 20-17 road victory. The Aggies won the last matchup in 2017.
The kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. EST on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station. MyBookie has the Gators as a 5.5- point road favorite.
What to Know- Florida Gators
It is still early in the season, but very few offenses have looked as good as the offense with quarterback Kyle Trask is leading at Florida. That offensive explosion has helped the Gators defeat Ole Miss (51-35) and South Carolina (38-24) in the opening two weeks.
Trask is off to a fantastic start, completing 72 percent of his passes, totaling 684 yards and 10 touchdowns. More importantly, he has only thrown one interception.
Trask has no shortage of playmakers on offense, as tight end Kyle Pitts has 12 catches for 227 yards, with an impressive six touchdowns. At 6-foot-6, the junior tight end is an absolute matchup nightmare. He runs like a wide receiver, and inside the redzone, he is almost impossible to guard.
While Pitts is the physical threat, senior Kadarius Toney is the big play threat. He is the player for Florida, who can turn a short pass into a highlight touchdown.
The Gators once again have one of the elite defenses in the country, but it is the offense that makes this team a national championship contender.
What to Know- Texas A&M Aggies
Things haven’t went as smooth for the Aggies, as Texas A&M will be looking to bounce back from a 52-24 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide. While losing to Alabama isn’t anything you should be embarrassed about, a 17-12 Week 1 victory against Vanderbilt showed some weaknesses in this team.
Quarterback Kellen Mond at times during his career, has had the look of an all-conference type of quarterback. However, inconsistency has been a major flaw in his game, and has been the case again this year.
In the game against Alabama, he threw for a solid 318 yards and three touchdowns, but he threw for only 189 yards in the narrow victory against Vanderbilt. It has been this type of inconsistency that has held the Aggies back from taking the next step in the SEC.
If Texas A&M is going to stay in this game, the defense will have to be much better than it was in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide had 435 yards through the air, including passes of 78 and 87 yards. The defense will have to get pressure on Trask, or it could be another long day.
The pick is in
Texas A&M has an incredible opportunity to get a huge statement type win for the program. The Gators have dreams of a berth in the playoffs, and the Aggies could show they are a team to look out for in the SEC. If Kellen Mond can resemble the type of quarterback the Aggies have hoped he would become, then it could be a special day in College Station.
That being said, it is hard for us to see this happening against a terrific Florida team. After seeing what the Crimson Tide passing attack did last weekend, you can imagine the Gators are licking their chops. Take the Gators covering on the road in this one, as it could get ugly fast.
