NCAA Football Betting Preview: Clemson Tigers vs. Virginia Tech Hokies

The Clemson Tigers will travel to Virginia Tech looking to clinch a berth in the ACC Championship for the sixth consecutive year. The Tigers bounced back from a loss to Notre Dame with a 52-17 victory over Pittsburgh.

On the other hand, the Hokies are riding a three-game losing streak. Their last game was also against Pittsburgh, where they were defeated 47-14.

Clemson Betting Preview: Playoff Bound

With Trevor Lawrence back and the COVID-19 outbreak behind them, Clemson looks to be the odds on favorite to win the ACC championship game. Even with their earlier double-overtime loss against Notre Dame, the Tigers should be the betting favorites in that game, with the inside track on the second seed in the College Football Playoff.

Lawrence has completed 161-of-228 passes for 2,236 yards with 19 touchdowns and two interceptions. Amari Rodgers has been his favorite target with 58 catches for 813 yards with six touchdowns.

The run game, led by Travis Etienne, has been a little disappointing, averaging just under 150 yards a game. Etienne has carried the ball 132 times for 692 yards with 12 touchdowns. Despite the run game not being elite, the Tigers are still averaging 512.2 yards per game on offense and 46.1 points.

The Clemson defense has been one of the best in the nation as far as yards allowed. They are limiting their opponents to just under 300 yards per game. They are also holding their opponents to 19.2 points per game.

Virginia Tech Betting Preview: Can They Cover?

Virginia Tech was looking good to start the season with a Top 25 ranking and a 4-2 record. Then a bizarre loss to Liberty, after what they thought was a game-winning block field goal for a touchdown was called back because the Hokies called a timeout, the season has entered a bit of a tailspin.

The Hokies have tried a split approach at quarterback for most of the season. It looks like Hendon Hooker has won the job. Hooker has completed 97-of-149 passes for 1,332 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.

The Hokies have relied on a strong run game to carry the offense. Virginia Tech is averaging just over 250 yards per game, led by Khalil Herbery, who has carried the ball 113 times for 924 yards with six touchdowns.

Virginia Tech, who is usually known for a strong defense, has struggled on that side of the ball this season. The Hokies are allowing 463 yards of total offense and 32.6 points per game.

This line being as close as it is surprises me. While the Hokies looked good against Miami three weeks ago, it seems like this team is lost. That is not going to bode well with Clemson coming to town. The Tigers roll in this one.
