NCAA College Football Betting Preview: Louisville Cardinals vs. Miami Hurricanes – Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020

The 17th ranked Hurricanes travel to face the 18th ranked Cardinals in one of the better early season matchups. This will be both teams ACC opener.

Miami’s Manny Diaz and Louisville’s Scott Satterfield are both entering their second second season as head coach. Miami defeated Louisville last year 55-27 in Miami.

Hurricanes Feature New Up-Tempo Offense

Last week against UAB, Miami showed off the new fast paced offense led by dual-threat quarterback D
Eriq King. King has a NCAA record-streak with 13 straight games with both a running and passing touchdown.

They rushed for 337 yards last week led by Cam’ron Harris’ 134 yards. The Hurricanes had four players run for more than 50 yards. This no huddle offense doesn’t allow for many defensive substitutions so look for Miami to try and tire the Cardinals out and take advantage in the second half.

The Hurricanes limited the Blazers to only 280 yards of total offense. The Hurricanes defense did not get to break out the turnover chain as they did not force a turnover.

Cardinals Look to Make Strides on Defense

Louisville will look to fix a defense that was a weak spot last year. In their win against Western Kentucky, 35-21, they did look to have made strides. The third TD came late in the game during garbage time.

Micale Cunningham was 19 of 34 for 343 yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception. The Cardinals look to be a big play offense as they had 3 plays for more than 40 yards. Receiver Tutu Atwell had 7 catches for 78 yards.

The defense had 10 tackles for loss and three sacks. The Cardinals did create one turnover on a fumble.

Hurricanes/Cardinals Betting Lines

Mybookie has Louisville as a 2.5-point favorite. The total is set at 64.5 points.

The big question of the game is can the Cardinals stop the dynamic Hurricanes run game. The fast paced offense will look to wear down the Louisville defense and should have a big second half.

The Cardinals offense will be able to throw the ball against the Miami secondary. Their top cornerback decided to opt-out due to COVID-19 so defending Atwell and company is going to be a problem.

I think MIami’s run game is too much in the second half as the Hurricanes pull off the small upset. Miami +2.5 is the play here.

Miami 30, Louisville 27
