NCAA College Football Betting Preview: Auburn Tigers vs. LSU Tigers – Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020

It is almost impossible to believe that an LSU versus Auburn matchup would occur with neither team ranked in the Top 25. But at 2-2 and 3-2 respectively, that is exactly the case.

Both teams are coming off of victories, but both teams are disappointing, to say the least. LSU easily disposed of South Carolina 52-24 last week. Auburn went on the road and defeated Mississippi 35-28.

LSU Betting Preview: Lack of Defense

It looks like the Tigers were able to pick up where they left off last season with another dynamic offense. The problem is that with the departure of a lot of NFL talent on defense, that unit has really struggled in the 2020 season.

LSU’s defense is allowing 30 points per game and over 470 yards of total offense. The only team they have held under 24 points is lowly Vanderbilt.

Quarterback Myles Brennan is doing his best to replace Joe Burrow. He has completed 79-of-131 passes for 1,112 yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. His favorite target has been Terrace Marshall Jr., who has caught 27 passes for 512 yards and a remarkable nine touchdowns.

The offense is putting up 42 points per game and just over 485 yards of total offense. Tyrion Davis-Price leads the run game with 245 yards on 50 carries with two touchdowns.

Auburn Betting Preview: Have to Run the Ball

Auburn is a much better team at home, especially quarterback Bo Nix. Nix broke his string of awful play on the road as he went 23-of-30 for 238 yards with a touchdown, but more importantly, no interceptions in the win against South Carolina.

Nix is 101-of-172 on the season for 1,107 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions. Seth Williams has been his go-to receiver with 24 catches for 440 yards and three touchdowns.

The run game will be key for Auburn as Saturday as they look to keep the dynamic LSU offense off the field. The Tigers are averaging 164.4 yards per game on the ground. They are led by Tank Bigsby, who has carried the ball 74 times for 432 yards and three touchdowns.

The defense has been a little better than LSU’s unit. They are limiting their opponents to 25.2 points per game and just over 400 yards of total offense.

The only common opponent the two teams share is South Carolina. LSU beat them at home 52-24, while Auburn lost on the road to the Gamecocks 30-22.

Brennan and company will be too much on offense as they will move the ball at will. Bigsby having a big day will be the only way Auburn can stay in this one as they need to control the time of possession.

Nix’s tendency to throw interceptions will continue as LSU gets too many cracks at the Auburn defense. While Auburn is much better at home, it will not be enough as LSU comes away with a road win.
