A year ago, Alabama and LSU would have had the eyes of all of college football. The Crimson Tide are still having an outstanding season and are ranked the top-ranked team after starting the season at 8-0.
Unfortunately, the Tigers have not been able to replicate their National Championship season from last year. LSU is only 3-4 this season, and a 3-6 season seems very likely with Florida coming up next week.
Alabama Betting Preview: Best Team in NCAA?
Alabama looks to be the most dominant team in college football, and it is not relatively close. They are outgaining their opponents by nearly 200 yards a game and outscoring them by 30. Since defeating Georgia by 17 points, only Auburn has come within 30 points, and they lost by 29.
Mac Jones has moved himself up NFL draft boards and the Heisman race as he has been early perfect this season. He has completed 173-of-227 passes for 2,728 yards with 23 touchdowns and only three interceptions. His favorite target has been Devonta Smith, who has caught 72 passes for 1,074 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The rushing game is averaging 177.5 yards per game. Najee Harris has carried the ball 148 times for 893 yards and 17 touchdowns.
After a rough start to the season, this Crimson Tide defense has become elite as well. They are limiting opponents to 357 yards and 18.5 points per game. They have held their last four opponents under 20 points per game.
LSU Betting Preview: Championship Hangover
LSU’s defense had one of their better performances of the year last week as they held Texas A&M to only 20 points. Unfortunately, the offense did almost nothing as they could only produce seven points.
The offensive numbers aren’t terrible, they average just over 425 yards per game and 30 points, but the unit simply isn’t good enough to carry a weak defense like last year. Max Johnson has been okay at quarterback, but the injury to Myles Brennan set this unit back.
Johnson has completed 29-of-46 passes after getting the starting nod two weeks ago. His favorite target has been Terrace Marshall Jr., who has caught 48 balls for 731 yards and ten touchdowns.
The run game has been an issue for the LSU offense. They are averaging only 111 yards per game and are led by Tyrion David-Price, who has carried the ball 88 times for 367 yards and three touchdowns.
Defense has been the real issue for the Tigers. They are allowing their opponents to score 30 points per game and gain over 440 yards of total offense. They will have their hands full with this Alabama offense that is one of the best in the nation.

This LSU offense has struggled without Brennan, and that won’t change this week. Alabama should get into the 40s with ease, but I can’t see how this LSU team puts up more than 14 points.
