NCAA College Football Betting Preview: Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Georgia Bulldogs – Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020

The Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide battle in a matchup that could very easily feature the best two teams in college football. The Bulldogs struggled early against Tennessee, but absolutely dominated en route to the 44-21 victory.

Alabama, on the other hand, had a much tougher game, as Ole Miss was in it for nearly the entire game, before falling 63-48. These two teams have had some memorable matchups in the SEC championship and national championship in recent years, and this figures once again to be an instant classic.

Kick off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, and BetOnline has the Crimson Tide as 6-point home favorites.

What to know about Georgia

The Bulldogs are coming off a 44-21 victory against Tennessee, and in the second half, looked absolutely dominating. The defense especially had Tennessee under control all game, as the Volunteers first touchdown was a bizarre fumble.

The Georgia defense has the ability to stifle any team the Bulldogs face this year. However, it is the rapidly improving offense that has Georgia thinking about a national championship.

Two weeks ago, Georgia didn’t have a starting quarterback, but Stetson Bennett has taken that job in convincing fashion. He has thrown for 689 yards and five touchdowns, without an interception. That is the biggest statistic to look out for. The defense of Georgia is so good, that as long Bennett doesn’t give opponents short fields, then the Bulldogs should win most games.

If there was one negative against Tennessee, it was the Bulldogs really struggled to get the ground game going. This is usually a strength of the Georgia offense, and will be huge in helping keep the explosive Alabama offense on the sidelines.

What to know about Alabama

This is not your normal Crimson Tide football team. Most years, it has been be solid on offense, and the defense will get the job done. The past couple of seasons has seen where they can win a game with both sides of the ball.

This year, it may just be that the offense has to go get the job done. Quarterback Mac Jones probably wasn’t on a bunch of preseason Heisman trophy lists, but he is there now. Jones threw for 417 yards last Saturday with two touchdowns, following a 435 yard, four touchdown performance the week before. He has been absolutely shredding defense, allowing running Najee Heeis to go wild as well.

Against the Rebels, he had 23 carries for 206 yards and five touchdowns. Any time Ole Miss tried to get back in the game, Harris would gash them for many yards. Teammate wide receiver Devonta Smith also dominated the game, catching 13 passes for 164 yards and one touchdown.

This offense has too many weapons to slow down, now, they just need the defense to pick it up.

The Crimson Tide after the game were speculating that Ole Miss knee their defensive signals. Regardless, the Crimson Tide too many times were out of position or missing tackles.

The pick is in

This is going to be a fantastic game, as Georgia coach Kirby Smart goes up against his mentor, Nick Saban.

The one thing about Alabama has been they may have a tough week, but they generally don’t have two consecutive bad weeks. The Ole Miss offense is going to be able to score points on anybody they play, and frankly, are more explosive than Georgia.

We see the six points and we absolutely love it. Bennett has been good thus far from Georgia, but he is about to see something he hasn’t seen before. Alabama will have eight in the box all game, and will force Bennett to beat them deep. We like the Crimson Tide in this one, and we like them comfortably.
