NBA Championship Odds: Lakers Overwhelming Faves With 3-1 Lead

The momentum in the NBA Finals has swung back in favor of the Los Angeles Lakers after they squeaked out a Game 4 victory over the Miami Heat, and they have returned to being overwhelming odds-on favorites to win the 2020 NBA championship.

The best basketball sites have moved the Lakers’ odds back up to -15000 after dropping them to as low as -1100 following their Game 3 loss. The Heat, who are trailing a playoff series for the first time in the postseason, come back at +1800 after being as low as +650 after the Game 3 win.

Game 5 is set for Friday, October 9, with the Lakers sitting as 7.5-point favorites as of Wednesday morning to win their 17th championship in franchise history.

Lakers Are One Win Away From Title

After the Heat’s victory in Game 3, some bettors may have been doubting the chances for their Lakers futures tickets, but they immediately felt reassured watching Game 4.

The Lakers defense was in attack mode to limit the Heat’s three-point shooting (34.2 percent in Game 4) while Anthony Davis was a monster in the paint. The Brow had four blocks and was disrupting nearly every shot at the rim, making the Heat constantly have to kick out on drives to the hoop.

AD’s matchup with Jimmy Butler for most of the game clearly had an impact on the Heat’s offensive capabilities but the likely NBA Finals MVP, LeBron James, stole the show again with another near triple-double with 28 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. LeBron and AD combined for 50 points in Game 4 while shooting 50 percent from the floor.

For what it’s worth, if you’re thinking about betting the Heat to make the comeback: this is the 24th time that a James-led team opened a series with a 2-0 lead. His squads in Cleveland, Miami and L.A. are 23-0 in those previous instances. The last time the Lakers franchise blew a 2-0 lead was in the 1969 finals against the Boston Celtics.
