Hull City vs Portsmouth Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

  • Five of Hull’s seven home games this term have generated fewer than 2.5 goals.
  • Hull have kept four clean sheets and conceded just seven goals at the KCOM this season.
  • Portsmouth’s last five league outings have all produced under 2.5 goals.
  • The visitors have kept three clean sheets and conceded just seven goals in their eight away starts.

Tight Encounter Likely on Humberside

Top meets second at the KCOM in League 1 this Friday and it’s easy to envisage a tight battle on Humberside as the hosts look to steady the ship after consecutive defeats.

It’s been a bad week for the Tigers who slumped to a 0-1 reverse here against Shrewsbury Town last Saturday, before a 3-2 loss at Blackpool in midweek. Grant McCann’s side are still two points clear at the head of affairs and have a game in hand on most of the field, but they will be desperate to curb their mini rot immediately this week against a Portsmouth outfit who are hot on their heels.

Portsmouth know they will leapfrog Hull here with a victory and the visitors will be mightily confident that they can bag a result after winning five and drawing two of their eight away matches so far this term.

Pompey weren’t great in their 0-0 stalemate at home to Fleetwood on Wednesday though – their fifth fixture on the bounce to produce under 2.5 goals.

We think that trend may continue here as both sides are likely to take a cautious approach and will not want to concede ground to each other in the promotion race.

Our prediction is reinforced by the fact that Hull have kept four clean sheets and conceded just four goals at the KCOM this term, while Pompey have shipped just seven goals on the road.

The likely priority for both teams will be to avoid defeat and in a cagey contest we can also see this one ending goalless at full-time.
