Taunton horse racing tips

12.30 – Taunton Round Table Selling Handicap Hurdle – 2m3f

A wide-open affair to start Taunton’s afternoon meeting, so it might be worth having multiple selections in the expectation of eliminating various units.

AWAY FOR SLATES is very well-handicapped being 2Ib lower than when last successful and has plenty of useful form on heavy ground. He has often competed in better races than this, so has to be respected with plenty in his favour.

VICENZO MIO has been frustrating to follow but is down to a career-low mark and has a good chance on today’s terms. THE WEASEL has potential from his current mark, while FLANAGANS FIELD shouldn’t be dismissed at this level either.

13.00 – British EBF Mares’ ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race) – 2m3f

ALLAVINA is undoubtedly the solid option here having opened her account over hurdles at Fontwell last month. Today’s longer trip should unlock further improvement and she is entitled to take plenty of beating with the best form on display.

LILY OF LEYSBOURNE was runner-up in all of her first four starts over hurdles before defying a long absence to score at Doncaster 43 days ago. If able to back that up, she should be thereabouts with the ground unlikely to pose a problem.

13.30 – Aspen Waite Complete Business Growth Service Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race) – 2m

THE WIDDOW MAKER looked a much-improved model when third last time out and, in a much weaker race, he has been found a good opportunity to get off the mark at the fourth time of asking for a stable starting to hit reasonable form.

At a bigger price, DRUIM SAMHRAIDH was never involved on hurdles/stable debut here in January but beat a 122-rated individual in a bumper when trained in Ireland and looks overpriced on collateral form with potential for better in this sphere.

14.00 – Kate Austin Misses Her Racing Handicap Chase – 2m5f

Another tricky handicap to evaluate but TRIPLE CHIEF is a huge danger to the rest given he’s two from four at the track and 20Ib lower than his last winning mark. Down to a career-low mark with the presence of Bryony Frost in the saddle, he’s strongly considered.

AVOIR DE SOINS got off the mark at Lingfield two starts ago and remained in form with a good fourth back there in December. His mark remains unchanged and represents a stable who traditionally hit the target regularly at this venue.

14.30 – Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) – 2m

There was plenty to like about KING ROLAND’s chase debut when third at Uttoxeter and he remains with considerable potential in this sphere having finished second in a highly-competitive Grade 2 at Cheltenham January last year over 2m4f which seemingly stretched his stamina.

His two most impressive victories for connections thus far have come on similar ground and an opening handicap mark of 140 looks to have underestimated him in all aspects of today’s event. He has all the credentials to take the scalp of some useful opposition here before going onto bigger and better things in due course.

Selections: KING ROLAND

15.05 – Geoffrey Bosley ‘Tally Ho’ Handicap Chase – 2m7f

WAGNER has been below-par the last couple of times but remains unexposed and can’t be discounted with room for improvement, representing a yard who always does well at this course.

STORM HOME only went down by a head last time out over course-and-distance and probably would have won with a better jump at the final fence. Harry Kimber takes off a handy 7Ib, so his mount could easily go one better.
