Hoosier Books Generated $100 Million in First Year

Sportsbetting has proven to be big business in Indiana, as sportsbook generated more than $100 million in the first year that it was legal.

The numbers were revealed in addition to $1.20 billion in wagers during the year. August numbers saw books generate $9.8 million in revenues, up 47.6 million from July. Handle for the month was $169 million, up 138.4% from the year prior. Operators paid $934,314 in taxes during the period.

Online sportsbetting handle hit $143.9 million, with retail wagers making up $25.1 million. Each of these channels saw record-setting numbers for the month in terms of handle.

Sportsbetting is picking up in Indiana, as more sports start their seasons following the Covid-19 pandemic. It’ll be interesting to see where these numbers go from here, as the NHL and NBA playoffs wind down in the next month or so.
