- Celta Vigo have drawn three of their four away matches this season.
- The visitors are toiling down in 17th, however three of their four defeats thus far have been suffered at the hands of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and leaders Real Sociedad.
- Elche beat Valencia 2-1 in their last home outing but had previously managed just one point and no goals against Huesca (0-0) and Real Sociedad (0-3).
Struggling Celta to Scrap Out a Point
It’s been a torrid start to the season for Celta Vigo, but the Galicians may be able to stop the rot with a point at Elche this Friday.
Celestes travel to Estadio Martinez 17th in the table after a 1-4 battering at the hands of Real Sociedad on Matchday 8 and it’s now four defeats in five for Oscar Garcia’s men who have managed just one win from their eight matches so far this term.
A struggle was expected for Celta following their 17th place finish in 2019/20, but they’re a side who know how to battle against teams in and around them. They picked up vital results when it mattered last season to beat the drop and it’s worth noting that three of their four reverses so far this term have been against Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and current leaders Sociedad.
While Elche have made a fine start to life in the top tier overall with 10 points secured from six, their good run came to an abrupt end at Betis last weekend (3-1) and while they’ve beaten Valencia at home (2-1), Jorge Almiron’s charges previously managed just a single point and zero goals against Huesca (0-0) and Sociedad (0-3).
Celta have drawn four of their last five on the road against opposition of a similar standard to what they face this Friday, so we’re tentatively recommending a stalemate alongside a 1-1 correct score. The teams have kept just four clean sheets between them in 14 combined fixtures this season, so it’s reasonable to expect a goal at both ends of the field.
