The NFL is back on Saturday Night, when the surging Miami Dolphins take on the down-and-out Las Vegas Raiders on NFL Network. The once promising Raiders’ season is now in shambles after losing four of their last five games.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins have won three of their last four games and could make an unlikely playoff appearance after starting the season 1-3.

Miami can make the playoffs for only the second time since 2008 by winning both of their last two games. The Dolphins are favored by 3 points in this matchup and there are plenty of player props to consider.

Myles Gaskin is Back

This is a matchup made in heaven for the Dolphins. They need a win and they are short on pass catchers at the moment. Last week against the Patriots, they turned to the run game to combat the issue and it worked to perfection. They played defense and ran the ball 42 times for 250 yards en route to a 22-12 win over the New England Patriots.

There is not a worse run defense (DVOA) in the NFL than the Patriots this season according to Football Outsiders, so it’s no wonder why the Dolphins had success on the ground. This week, they get the second worst run unit in the league in the Raiders. Even better, they get Myles Gaskin back from the COVID-19 list.

Last week, the Dolphins turned to Salvon Ahmed who filled in admirably for Gaskin going for 122 yards on 23 carries. It is highly likely that Ahmed will be involved again tonight but there is room in this backfield for both backs. Last week, Matt Breida toted the rock 12 times and he only played 19 snaps.

It’s hard to imagine Gaskin not being the lead back tonight since he is coming off of the the COVID-19 list and not an “injury”. He practiced this week and should have success against a Raiders’ defense that has given up more rushing yards to running basks than all but seven teams in the NFL. In his last game against the Bengals, which was off of a four game layoff, he carried the ball 21 times on 50 snaps. Even if he doesn’t get that kind of a workload, he should still clear the 12.5 carries.

The Pick: Myles Gaskin Over 12.5 Rushing Attempts (+100)

Who Scores?

So far this season, no team in the NFL has given up more rushing touchdowns to opposing running backs than the Raiders. They are in a three-way tie for the feat with the Texans and Lions, who have both also given up 17 rushing touchdowns to the running back position. It seems natural to think they will give up a rushing touchdown to the position tonight.

Technically, Salvon Ahmed is a play here too at +105 but Gaskin has the better odds so he should be considered first. He leads the current Dolphins’ running backs with seven carries inside the five yard line this season so he is likely to get the money carries tonight. It is important to note, Jordan Howard stole nine goal line carries early in the season while he was still with the team, so Gaskin’s seven totes could easily be sixteen. He is a good bet to get into the end zone at some point tonight.

Pick: Myles Gaskin – Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+120)
