? Mystic Mac predicts…#UFC257 pic.twitter.com/eBbKiyI6e4

Two-division champion McGregor is popularly known as The Notorious One ever since his Cage Warriors days but since coming to the UFC, the Irishman has earned another nickname for his uncanny ability to predict the outcome of his fights: Mystic Mac.
Not only does McGregor like to make fight predictions, he also has a solid history of success. McGregor famously predicted that he would bring the organization to his home country and that happened when he faced Diego Barandao in the UFC’s return to Dublin in 2014. The Notorious also predicted how he would beat Poirier in their first bout. Not many believed him when he vowed to stop Jose Aldo inside one round but McGregor ended Aldo’s reign as the UFC featherweight champion in just 13 seconds.
In his last bout in January of last year, McGregor said he would finish Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, which he did. However, not all of his predictions have come true. But although Mystic Mac’s predictions aren’t automatic, you have to believe that McGregor will be looking to end the fight the way he said he would. Because with Khabib possibly watching at cageside, a spectacular victory by the Irishman could lead to the rematch he has been longing for.
Relishing the Underdog Role
Have no fear, underdog is here!
— The Diamond (@DustinPoirier) January 5, 2021
But while McGregor is busy making his predictions, Dustin Poirier is quietly relishing the underdog role. The Diamond opened as a +150 underdog for this rematch but his odds have significantly dropped to +235 with just over a week to go before the fight. However, Poirier isn’t thinking about the betting lines. He’s looking to avenge his UFC 178 loss and get back in the title picture.
Poirier won the interim UFC lightweight title by defeating Max Holloway at UFC 236. However, he lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a bout for the undisputed lightweight title at UFC 242. The Diamond quickly bounced back with a solid unanimous decision win over Top 5 ranked Dan Hooker last June 27, 2020. A win over McGregor should give him one side of the next lightweight title fight.
The Diamond has lost just once in his last eight fights and that loss was to Nurmagomedov who has lost to no one. Three out of his last five wins have been by stoppage and overall, he has 19 stoppages in 26 MMA wins or a 73% finishing rate. Five of his last six fights though have ended in three or more rounds, which is in contrast to McGregor’s 60 second prediction. It’s worth noting though that two of Poirier’s last three losses have come inside the first round, including the UFC 178 loss to McGregor.
