The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will hit the road to take on the Clemson Tigers in a Friday evening ACC tilt. The Yellow Jackets are currently sitting at 9-7 overall and 5-5 in league play but have won just two of their last six games and are watching their NCAA Tournament hopes slip away.
Clemson is beginning to put the post-Covid lull behind them, winning three of their last four games. Two of those games were beatdowns of North Carolina and Syracuse. Clemson had lost three consecutive games following their eleven day quarantine period. The Tigers are currently 12-5 on the season and 6-5 in league play.
The game is scheduled for an 8:00 PM EST tip from Little John Coliseum with the Tigers currently a 3.5 point favorite. The total sits at 129.5
A must win for the Jackets
The Yellow Jackets don’t have a lot of opportunities to pad their resume through the rest of the season so a win on the road against a Clemson team that seems to have regained their confidence is huge. Georgia Tech should have won at least one of their games against Virginia but blew leads in both games by going ice cold from the field. In their most recent game, the Jackets shot a miserable 4-20 from behind the arc against the Wahoos.
Josh Pastner’s Jackets are just 1-4 straight up in true road games this season and 7-9 overall against the spread. On the road, Tech is just 2-3 against the number. The Jackets have been historically good against the number under Pastner in recent seasons but have really fallen off this year. They have gone over the total more times than not with an 8-7-1 in the o/u though they have eclipsed the total in just two of their five road games this season.
Clemson clawing back into the dance
Now that Clemson seems to have regained their mojo, the Tigers needs to solidify their resume and avoiding a win here would certainly put them back into the top 25 talk and certainly the NCAA field. To no one’s surprise it has been Aamir Simms leading the resurgence of Brad Brownell’s group with help from a seemingly different individual every night. This team is the epitome of teamwork, they may not have names that pop but someone new steps up almost each night.
Clemson is 8-1 straight up at home this season and a very nice 6-2-1 against the spread within the friendly confines of Little John. They have gone under the total in five of their nine games in the building.
Georgia Tech at Clemson (-3.5) – Total: 129.5
Bovada has the spread favoring the home Tigers by 3.5 points after the opening line said four. The total has also hung pretty tight after opening at 129, currently sitting at 129.5. Clemson is juiced on the moneyline at -165 while the Jackets are +145 to take the game straight up.
Most people’s first inclination would be to fade Georgia Tech on the road but the Jackets pasted Clemson in Atlanta by 18 points about three weeks ago. In that game, Mike Devoe was tremendous from the field and he happens to be coming off of one of the worst games of his entire career. He’s a tremendous shooter, look for him to get right. Take Georgia Tech moneyline.
