The Most Aggressive Team You Can Field!

After adding plenty more card stats to FootyStats recently and after launching our interactive Foul Map, we wanted to take this new data even further. Today, we’re creating our very own football team. Introducing Booking XI, the most aggressive team assembled!

We have taken all of the card data from 2019/2020 and picked the players that will take us to record heights, especially in terms of cards received! To keep things interesting, the FootyStats team was not allowed to pick any players currently playing in South America.

We will be playing a 5-3-2 formation, with an “all-out defence” attitude. This team will have more cards than points by the end of the season.

GK: Sagi Malul

First, let me introduce our GK. He makes Jens Lehman look vanilla. It’s Sagi Malul. He’s 25 years old and has been playing in the Liga Leumit since 2014. He was the clear choice to be our man between the sticks.

Sagi Malul’s Profile

RB: Allan Nyom

We start with Allan Nyom at RB. He picked up 15 cards in 34 games last season and was dismissed twice. A great start to our defensive line. He’s solid, very tall, and comes with plenty of experience. He certainly knows how to deploy a tactical foul (or 8). He’s been hacking down wingers in La Liga for two years after leaving West Brom.

Allan Nyom’s Profile

CB: Paco Craig

Paco Craig, Wycombe Defender

Introducing the first of our three CBs. It’s someone you might not have heard of before, but you may see his name around more now that he’s secured a move to English football. Paco Craig was playing in the USL Championship in the States before he signed for Wycombe Wanderers. Like Nyom, he was dismissed twice. At just 27, Paco could be a big part of Booking FC’s future.

CB: Sergio Tejera

Our second CB will add some Spanish flair to our team, not that we need it. He’s 30 years old and versatile, often moving up into midfield when needed. His overall disciplinary record in Spain is incredible, picking up 81 cards since 2015. For that reason, he’s one of the first names on the team sheet.

Sergio Tejera’s Profile

CB: Stefano Scognamillo

The third and final CB in this system is currently playing in Italy but was born in Russia. He’s often played in the lower leagues in Italy and played in Serie B for the first time during 2019/2020. As you can see by his stats, he adjusted superbly. If you can’t stop them… Hack them down. This is Booking FC’s motto, and Stefano is the enforcer!

Stefano Scognamillo’s Profile

LB: Martin Mantovani

At 36, this Argentinian has seen it all. His legs have gone, but his killer instinct has not. He picked up 0.73 cards per 90 minutes last season and in the last decade has been booked 137 times (at the time of writing, I’m sure there’s more on the way). He’s currently playing for Las Palmas in the Spanish Segunda.

Martin Mantovani’s Profile

CDM: Manuel Sanchez

We move into midfield with two holding midfielders. Not much creativity here, but who needs that?! Meet Manuel, our blocker, our Makelele, our quarter-back…Whatever floats your boat. Last season he received 0.91 cards per 90 minutes played for Elche, after playing 31 games. Amazing. With Sanchez on your side, you’re almost guaranteed cards! In 2014/2015, he received 26 cards. In 7 of the 9 recorded seasons, he has received 10+ cards.

Manuel Sanchez’s Profile

CDM: Klaus Gjasula

Meet Klaus, our Albanian gladiator. Get through him if you can. We need to congratulate him actually, as he was able to get through a full season without a red card. Well done. However, he did receive 21 cards in 36 games for Hamburger SV last season.

Klaus Gjasula’s Profile

CM: Richard Boateng

Richard Boateng Card Stats

This is probably the toughest position in the team, as Richard will be our box-to-box midfielder. The Ghanian will have absolutely no support from our defence, who will be sitting deep for 90 minutes, so whether the forwards ever touch the ball or not is going to be his responsibility. He’s capable, having scored 5 goals and created another 4 last season for Alcoron. He’s also no stranger to a card, having been booked 16 times last season. In the 4 games played so far this season, he’s already been sent off and booked twice.

Richard Boateng’s Profile

FW: Marko Livaja

Livaja's Card Stats

At the top of the pitch, we have a Croatian couple that will bully defenders all day long. First, meet Marko Livaja. He plays for AEK Athens in the Greek Super League and last season he scored a respectable 12 goals across all competitions. What’s great, though, is he scored more with the referee than he did the back of the net. 17 cards across all competitions. Livaja will be a busy bee at and do most of the running, leaving our final forward to put the ball in the back of the net.

Marko Livaja’s Profile

FW: Kristijan Lovric

Lovric's Card Stats

The second half of this Croatian double team is Lovric, who looks to be a star in the making. He’s 24 and scored 14 goals in 31 games in the Croatian Prva Liga last season. He’s been sent off in 2 of the last 3 seasons and picked up 15 yellow cards last season. Like most forwards, tackling is not his strongest trait.
