Fore! Where will you make money on the 120th US Open Championship, which runs Thursday-Sunday with daunting betting implications?
The field is so talented that many big names are live dogs with big prices. If DraftKings Sportsbook favorites Dustin Johnson at +850, Jon Rahm at +900, and Justin Thomas at +1400 don’t seem valuable enough, the board is loaded with longshots.
There are many ways to consider them. While the win line sports big returns, the dependable but smaller profit center may lie in Top 5, Top 10, and Top 20 finishes.
Betting a higher amount on a proven player to hit these spots can be more profitable than placing all of your funds on the winner, an extremely difficult wager.
It’s wise to delegate some money to the win spot because that’s where the fun is, but there’s value all throughout the Top 20.
Let’s look at some names and US Open odds at DraftKings.

Tiger Woods and US Open nostalgia
- +4500 to win
- +750 to hit the Top 5
- +400 for the Top 10
- +175 for the Top 20
Attracting legions in the gallery produces betting stature. Tiger Woods’ presence in a major resembles a holiday for sportsbooks in New Jersey.
They unfurl several hole-by-hole props, either via individual matchups or his predicted score on an upcoming hole.
“He is certainly drawing some action, along with Phil Mickelson (+8000),” said Johnny Avello, the director of race and sportsbook operations for DraftKings, told NJ Gambling Sites.
“But bettors also know that it’s tough for these guys to win, because they have to put four rounds together, which is difficult. There are so many other golfers on the top of their game right now.”
Woods is a betting magnet and backers will fondly recall his three US Open championships, along with the unheard-of wire-to-wire victories in 2000 and 2002. He also captured this event in 2008.
Today’s money converges with yesterday’s memories for the tournament’s sentimental favorite.
Hot tip: If none of the above tempts you, BetMGM Sportsbook has an odds boost for Woods that definitely swings the right direction.

Tyrrell Hatton: Consistent, yet under the radar
- +4000 to win
- +700 for a Top 5
- +400 for the Top 10
- +163 for the Top 20
This has been a breakout season for the native of England. But because Tyrrell Hatton hasn’t broken out too far, Hatton remains slightly overlooked and a good betting deal.
Hatton has one victory, six Top 10 finishes, and nine Top 25 efforts in 11 tour events. He’s been nearly a lock to hit the Top 25 and penetrates the Top 10 more than half the time.
“With a guy like that, you can not only take him at 40-1 to win but back it up with 4-1 for the Top 10, that’s a nice return,” Avello said. “He still makes money for you in the Top 20 and even the Top 30, he’s only -125. It’s like a horse racing bet in which you would take win, place, and show on your favorite horse.”
Hatton began his 2020 run with a first-ever tour victory in March at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. It was the last tournament before COVID-19 shut down the PGA Tour.
That’s important because the idle period, followed by Hatton playing in about half the ensuing competitions, keep him under the radar.
Hatton has played three straight good tournaments, increasing confidence for his bettors. He finished 25th in the Northern Trust, a tie for 16th in the BMW, and most recently seventh in the Tour Championship.
Hatton is playing solid golf right now.
Bryson DeChambeau: a good price
- +2800 to win
- +550 for Top 5
- +275 for Top 10
- +125 for a Top 20
Bryson DeChambeau is number 6 on the money list. But on the US Open odds board, he has been a worthy bet. DeChambeau has been money, earning nearly $5 million this season. And he has hit the Top 10 in nine of 17 events.
DeChambeau has been playing strongly. This is a bet that will get you somewhere.
Webb Simpson: a solid bet
- +2500 to win
- +550 for the Top 5
- +250 for the Top 10
- +120 for the Top 20
Webb Simpson is number 5 on the money list. You’d think that would garner some betting love. And perhaps it will after bettors peruse him at some top-dollar US Open odds at DraftKings.
Simpson won this event in 2012.
Xander Schauffele under pressure
- +1500 to win
- +350 for Top 5
- +175 for a Top 10
- -125 for Top 20
Xander Schauffele is the fourth highest choice.
Is that enough longshot value? Normally no, but he’s at +1500 to win at DraftKings. Schauffele just finished second in the Tour Championship with the same top names.
The question is whether he can handle the pressure. Schauffele is a nice price.
US Open odds: line shopping at FanDuel
Hatton, at +4500, and Woods, +4800, pay slightly more at FanDuel Sportsbook. Most of its big names, however, resemble DraftKings’ odds.
Don’t forget all the player props from individual matchups to top golfer by country.
FanDuel also has a promotion for anyone placing a wager of $25 or more pre-match outright on a golfer to win the tournament. The gambler gets $2 for every birdie or better by that player.
The US Open is contested at a different course each year, so its presence at Winged Foot in Mamaroneck, NY offers no edge to a player. But it’s a very tough course.
Five US Opens have been conducted at Winged Foot and only one champion has finished under par.
Gear up for third- and fourth-round betting, which has already been the craze this year. Only 21 of the last 50 US Open winners have led after the second round.
