In its continued crackdown against gambling, the police have arrested 11 persons and booked another person for gambling in three raids in different parts of the city. After bursting a big gambling racket in Lalton Kalan on Pakhowal Road, the police have been conducting raids at suspected gambling dens.
Nine persons identified as Alam Shah, Rajinder Kumar, Amarjit Kumar, Baba Dev, Sanjay, Balbir Singh, Gaganpreet Singh, Ranbir Singh and Ravi Kumar were nabbed by the police while gambling under the garb of Punjab state lottery at the shop of a property dealer near the Division 6 police station.
All suspects have been booked under various sections of the Gambling Act and the Lottery Act. The police said Rs 2,800 in cash was seized from the spot.
In another raid, conducted at a shop near Vishwakarma Mandir, the Miller Ganj police arrested a person identified as Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Islam Ganj while Deepak Kalra, a resident of Prem Nagar, was booked under Sections 13-A/3/67 of the Gambling Act and Section 7(3) of the Lottery Act for engaging in darra-satta (gambling) under the cover of the state lottery. Currency notes worth Rs 5,260 were recovered by the police from the spot.
Shiv Kumar of Vishwakarma Nagar on Tajpur Road, was arrested from Kuldeep Nagar while asking people to gamble. currency notes worth Rs 8,210 from the him. — OC
